This is my first blog post and I’m using it to get the hang of using the site. The picture above is my cat, who arrived having been named Elaine but who we renamed Maxwelle-Margaretta, or Margaret for everyday use, but who only actually answers to Kitty.
She is female because all calico cats are. That is because calico colouring is made up of two colour types: ginger-and-white and black. Since coat colour is dictated by the X chromosome, if a cat has two colour types, it necessarily has two X chromosomes. The name Margaret reflects this better than Kitty does, but the cat doesn’t really care.
Kitty is neurotic and wilful but I love her. And she loves me.
